Worn above the base layer, a thermal layer of protection or sometimes warn as a stand alone outer layer on sunny days the midlayer is vital in the colder months but works well during the summer as an outer layer as well. Properties can include  wicking, waterproof  as well as windproof. A collection of garments for sailing all year round. Both Gill and Musto have developed layering systems so that the base, mid and outer layer work in harmony with each other, wicking away perspiration but leaving warmth and breathability built in.
