The Icom IC-M423GE is a fixed marine VHF radio with built-in GPS, Class D DSC and active noise cancelling — the noise cancelling removing up to 90% of background noise from received calls and 30% from your own transmission, which is the difference between hearing and guessing when there's an engine under you.
The supplied speaker-microphone carries channel up/down, channel 16 and power buttons plus a 45mm speaker, so the set can live away from the helm and still be fully worked from the mic. Add the optional HM-195GB Command Mic, and you have a full second station up to 60 feet away, with an intercom between the two. A built-in 10W amplifier drives an external speaker as a PA or foghorn. GPS is built in, with a connection for an external antenna, and AIS target calling works with the MA-500TR Class B transponder — call a vessel by name without keying in an MMSI.
IPX7 waterproof, with laser-cut buttons that seal tight and spill no light at night. A flush mount kit is included.

Can the IC-M423GE be controlled from two positions?
Yes, with the optional HM-195GB CommandMic — a full second station up to 60 feet from the main set, with every function available and an intercom between the two. Typical setup is the radio at the chart table and the CommandMic at the helm.
Does the CommandMic come with it, or is it extra?
It's extra. The radio comes with a full-featured speaker-microphone (channel controls, channel 16 and power buttons), which is enough for many installations — add the CommandMic only if you genuinely need a second station.
What does active noise cancelling actually do on a VHF?
It digitally strips background noise from the audio — up to 90% on what you hear and 30% on what you transmit. In practice it means understanding a call first time over an engine rather than asking for a repeat, which is the difference that matters when the call is important.
Does it need an external GPS antenna?
GPS is built in and a GPS antenna is supplied for installations where the set is mounted away from a view of the sky. Position and time are then available for DSC without connecting anything else, though it can also take a feed from an external GPS if your boat already has one.
