The Icom IC-M330GE is a fixed marine VHF radio with built-in GPS and Class D DSC — the full safety function of a modern fixed set at one of the lowest prices in Icom's range. It measures 156mm wide, 66mm tall and 110mm deep, so it fits chart tables and cockpit consoles where most fixed sets won't.
Transmit power is the standard 25W, switchable to 1W for marina and close-quarters work. GPS is built in, with a connection for an external antenna if the set is mounted somewhere with a poor view of the sky. Class D DSC watches channel 70 continuously, including while you're talking on a working channel. The mic carries a channel 16 button and channel change controls, so routine operation never means reaching for the set — useful when it's mounted away from the helm.
The speaker stays clear at full volume, which in most installations removes the need for an external one, and AquaQuake shakes water off the cone after a soaking. IPX7 waterproof, and runs from a 12V supply.

Do I need an external antenna for the Icom M330GE VHF?
Yes, there is a standard antenna port on the back of the radio, and because of the way VHF signals work, you should mount an antenna as high as possible on your vessel to gain the maximum benefit from a fixed unit vs a low-level handheld VHF.
The VHF has built-in GPS; does that need an aerial too?
There is a separate aerial included, and this will need to be positioned outside for the best signal.
What am I missing out on with this unit vs other more expensive fixed VHF radios?
In short, very little. The display is not the most up-to-date but we actually find many people prefer it. This VHF is not trying to be a chart plotter and is not set-up for dual station working (so not ideal for a flybridge cruiser etc) but for a good proportion of users this is a perfect, rugged and reliable VHF complete with DSC, GPS and it is NMEA compatible. compatible.
